Its interface and workflows are familiar, documentation is extensive, and community knowledge is deep. That maturity matters when timelines are tight or when teams need predictable outcomes.
- Workshop4 also suits environments where stability outweighs experimentation. If your product is already in production, or close to it, switching IDEs introduces risk with little immediate upside. Workshop4 continues to be fully supported and remains a reliable foundation for embedded UI development.
Workshop5
A forward-looking evolution, not a drop-in replacement
- Workshop5 builds on the same core concepts as Workshop4 but introduces a modernised interface and streamlined workflows. Navigation has been simplified, widget selection refined, and the overall development experience is being rethought with future products in mind.
- However, Workshop5 is still under active development. At present, it supports ViSi and RP2350, with additional environments planned. ViSi-Genie support is not yet available, and existing Workshop4 projects are not compatible with Workshop5, even though the user experience is designed to feel familiar.
- That incompatibility is a key consideration. Choosing Workshop5 today is a forward investment rather than a convenience upgrade. It makes sense for teams starting fresh, experimenting with new hardware, or aligning with future platform roadmaps rather than current production requirements.

If your project targets established 4D hardware and relies on environments like ViSi-Genie, Workshop4 is currently the practical option. Workshop5 does not yet support that workflow.

Workshop4 excels when teams want fast, visual development with minimal overhead. ViSi-Genie in particular enables rapid UI creation without deep coding, which suits simpler interfaces or teams with mixed skill sets.
Workshop5 is being shaped for more structured workflows and modern UI expectations. While it will eventually support the same core capabilities, its design direction favours developers who expect to scale interfaces, manage growing projects, or work closer to code-driven development models.

It remains fully supported and production-ready. The distinction is timing. Workshop4 is optimised for today’s needs. Workshop5 is being built for what comes next.
